Latvian hotels and other accommodation establishments in the 2nd quarter of 2011
In comparison with the 2nd quarter of 2010, the number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments1 in the 2nd quarter of 2011 has increased by 30% and comprised 416.0 thousand people, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau (CSB). Of which 69% were foreign tourists and 31% - residents of Latvia. Number of foreign visitors grew by 31.2%. Notable growth was observed among visitors from Russia – 80%.
The highest share of the foreign tourists stayed in Riga – 80%, in Jūrmala – 7% and in Liepāja – 2%. The highest share of the Latvian travellers stayed in Riga – 23%, Liepāja – 11% and Jūrmala – 6%.
At the end of the 2nd quarter 15.6 thousand rooms and 36.0 thousand beds were available in the accommodation establishments.
In comparison with the 2nd quarter of 2010, when bed occupancy rate comprised 30.0%, in the 2nd quarter of 2011 the indicator in hotels of Latvia generally as well as Riga separately has increased (constituting 44.8%).
But room occupancy rate, in turn, in hotels of Riga with 100 rooms and more in the 2nd quarter reached even 90%.

1Every month CSB carries out survey on hotels and other accommodation establishments which compiles information on Latvian accommodation establishments, excluding State specialized sanatoriums and convalescent homes, which provide health care services for State. The survey includes hotels with at least 4 rooms and other collective accommodation establishments with at least 5 rooms.
