Latvian hotels and other accommodation establishments in the 1st quarter of 2011
In comparison with the 1st quarter of 2010, the number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments1 in the 1st quarter of 2011 has increased by 29% and comprised 247.1 thousand people, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau (CSB). Of which 64% were foreign tourists and 36% - residents of Latvia. Number of foreign visitors grew by 29.5%.The most notable growth was observed among visitors from Russia – 73%.
The highest share of the foreign tourists stayed in Riga – 82%, Jūrmala – 7% and Liepāja – 2%. The highest share of the Latvian residents stayed in Riga – 28%, Liepāja – 11% and Jūrmala – 10%.
At the end of the 1st quarter 15.5 thousand rooms and 35.2 thousand beds were available in the accommodation establishments.
In comparison with the 1st quarter of 2010, when bed occupancy rate comprised 23.9%, in the 1st quarter of 2011 the indicator in Riga hotels has increased (constituting 26.4%), similarly as in hotels of Latvia generally.
But room occupancy rate, in turn, in hotels of Riga with 100 rooms and more reached even 50%.

1 Every month CSB carries out survey on hotels and other accommodation establishments which compiles information on Latvian accommodation establishments, excluding State specialized sanatoriums and convalescent homes, which provide health care services for State. The survey includes hotels with at least 4 rooms and other collective accommodation establishments with at least 5 rooms.
