Latvia hotels and other accommodation establishments in 1st quarter of 2007
In comparison with 1st quarter of 2006, number of visitors in hotels and other collective accommodation establishments¹ in the first three months of this year increased by 14% and has reached 239.5 thsd people, according to Central Statistical Bureau. Of which 49% were residents of Latvia and 51% – foreign tourists. The highest share of the Latvia residents stayed in Riga – 36%, Jurmala – 8% and district of Riga – 8%.
In the 1st quarter of 2007 were surveyed 383 active hotels and other collective accommodation establishments, of which 162 hotels. In Riga were surveyed 98 collective accommodation establishments, of which 72 hotels, in Jurmala – 31 collective accommodation establishment, of which 11 hotels.
In Latvia hotel room occupancy rate at the end of the March² comprised 43% and bed occupancy rate – 33%, in Riga hotel room occupancy rate – 44% and bed occupancy rate – 52%.
At the end of 1st quarter of 2007 11.2 thsd rooms and 25.6 thsd beds were available.
70% of the foreign tourists stayed at hotels and other accommodation establishments in Riga. Of all foreign tourists, 8% stayed in collective accommodation establishments in Jurmala. The highest rate of visitors were from Estonia – 11.8%, Lithuania – 11.7%, United Kingdom – 11.3%, Russia – 9.6%, Finland – 7.6%, Germany – 6.9%, Norway – 6.5%, Sweden– 6.3%.

¹ The Central statistical Bureau every month carries out survey on hotels and other collective accommodation establishments, in which is compiled information on Latvia collective accommodation establishments, excluding State specialized sanatoriums and convalescent homes, which provide health care services for State.
