Latvian hotels and other accommodation establishments in 4th quarter of 2007
In comparison with 4th quarter of 2006, number of visitors in hotels and other collective accommodation establishments¹ in the 4th quarter of 2007 increased by 12% and has reached 308.2 thsd people, according to Central Statistical Bureau. Of which 46% were residents of Latvia and 54% – foreign tourists. The highest share of the Latvia residents stayed in Riga – 34%, Riga district – 9% and Jurmala – 7%. Of all foreign tourists 84% stayed at hotels and other accommodation establishments in Riga. 8% of all foreign tourists stayed in collective accommodation establishments in Jurmala.
In the 4th quarter of 2007 were surveyed 400 active hotels and other collective accommodation establishments, of which 168 hotels. In Riga were surveyed 99 collective accommodation establishments, of which 72 hotels, in Jurmala – 34 collective accommodation establishment, of which 15 hotels.
At the end of 4th quarter of 2007 11.5 thsd rooms and 25.7 thsd beds were available in accommodation establishments.
In Latvia hotel room occupancy rate at the end of the December² comprised 35% and bed occupancy rate – 28%, in Riga hotel room occupancy rate – 42% and bed occupancy rate – 33%.
The majority of foreign tourists were from Estonia – 10.3%, Germany – 9.3%, Norway – 9.2%, Lithuania – 9.0%, Finland – 8.5%, Sweden – 8.5%, Great Britain – 8.0%, Russia – 7.6%.

¹ The Central statistical Bureau every month carries out survey on hotels and other collective accommodation establishments, in which is compiled information on Latvian collective accommodation establishments, excluding State specialized sanatoriums and convalescent homes, which provide health care services for State. The survey includes data on hotels where are at least 10 rooms and other collective accomodation establishments where are at least 5 rooms.
