Results of the survey of Latvian residents about the domestic trips made in the 3rdquarter of 2010
The survey on the domestic trips of Latvian population conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau show that in the 3rd quarter of 2010 there were 4.5 mln recreational trips which is less by 6% than in the 3rd quarter of 2009. The number of same day recreational trips decreased by 3%, but the number of recreational trips with overnight stays – by 15%, compared to the 3rd quarter of previous year.
Reasons which prevented Latvian population from trips were financial conditions (55%), lack of time (14%), lack of interest (6%) and other reasons (25%).
Of all recreational trips most popular destinations were Riga region – 44%, Kurzeme – 18%, Latgale – 14%, Vidzeme – 14% and Zemgale – 10%.
The average length of recreational trips with overnight stays was 2.4 visitor nights, of which the average length of the long trips (4 and more nights) was 8.8 visitor nights.
21% of the residents preferred recreational trips with overnight stays and during a trip one traveller on average spent 21.2 lats, but per one day of trip traveller spent only 11.6 lats.
The majority of residents travelling for recreational purposes and staying overnight (79%) were accommodated in private lodgings (at relatives and friends, in summer cottages, in rented houses and flats, etc.). Recreational trips with overnight stays were mostly preferred by women (54.3%). The majority of travellers (40.0%) were aged 25-44 years.
In its turn the number of business trips with overnight stays was 50.2 thsd which is less by 20% than in the 3rd quarter of 2009. During business trip one traveller on average spent 42.5 lats. Men constituted the majority of business travellers – 63.2%. Cars were the most often used transport vehicle for recreational and business trips.
