Results of the survey of Latvian residents about the domestic trips made in the 1st quarter of 2010
The survey on the domestic trips of Latvian population conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau show that in the 1st quarter of 2010 there were 2.3 mln recreational trips which is less by 19% than in the 4th quarter of 2009. The number of travellers who stayed at hotels or other accommodation establishments during their trip has increased by one third. Also the number of business trips has increased.
Reasons which prevented Latvian population from trips were financial conditions (55%), lack of time (13%), lack of interest (8%), also cold winter left impact on it.
Most popular destination of recreational trips with overnight stays was Riga region – 40% of all recreational trips with overnight stays. 21% of all recreational trips with overnight stays were made to Vidzeme, 14% - to Latgale, 13% - to Kurzeme and 12% - to Zemgale.
The average length of recreational trips with overnight stays was 2.2 visitor nights, of which the average length of the long trips (4 and more nights) was 9.2 visitor nights.
9.5% of population preferred recreational trips with overnight stays, and during single trip one traveller on average spent LVL 18.4, and it is LVL 0.5 more than in the 4th quarter of 2009.
Recreational trips with overnight stays were mostly preferred by women (55.6%). The majority of travellers (41.8%) were aged 25-44 years.
In its turn the number of business trips with overnight stays comprised 73.3 thsd. 17.1 thsd persons participated in such trips, which is more by 8% than in the 4th quarter of 2009. During business trip one traveller on average spent LVL 26.2. Men constituted the majority of business travellers – 71.3%. Cars were the most often used transport vehicle for recreational and business trips.
