National minimum monthly wage and salary
The minimum monthly salary established by the State is used to guarantee minimum salary levels for full-time employees by concluding employment contracts with the employer.

According to Labour Law the Cabinet of Ministers defines the minimum monthly wage.
The principles for minimum monthly wage specification and review are defined by Cabinet Regulation No 563 of 18 August, 2016 "Procedures for the Specification and Review of the Minimum Monthly Wage". This Regulation stipulates that the Ministry of Welfare in cooperation other Ministries shall each year evaluate the economic situation in the country and submit a proposal for the amount of minimum monthly wage for the following period.
Each year by 15 July, the Ministry of Welfare shall submit a proposal regarding the retention, raising or reduction of the minimum monthly wage for the subsequent period and the date for the implementation of the relevant changes, for co-ordination to the National Tripartite Cooperation Council. The Council shall invite the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments to the examination of the proposal referred to.
Within two weeks after examination by the National Tripartite Cooperation Council of the proposal, the Ministry of Welfare shall submit it to the Cabinet.
Data are published at certain date, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
