Number of deaths

In 2017, the death number comprised 28.8 thousand persons, and crude death rate accounted for 14.8. The average age at death constituted 69 years among males and 79 years among females. No notable reduction was recorded in the death
rates, since the number of population aged 70 and over is increasing – at the beginning of 2018 the indicator accounted for 277 thousand people (14.3 % of the total population) and at the beginning of 2011 – for 275 thousand persons (13.2 %).

In 2017, the highest crude death rate was recorded in Latgale region (18.5 deaths per 1 000 inhabitants), whereas the lowest in Pierīga region – 12.4).

Number of deaths registered in the Republic of Latvia during a year. This number is not adjusted, if a person is declared to be dead after the aggregate for reporting period has been published.
