International long-term migration by country group
Long-term migration implies movement of the population from one administrative territory to another with an aim to change the place of residence permanently or for a period of at least one year.
Migration is divided into external (international) and internal (within the territory of Latvia).
Data on migration in breakdown by city and county also include internal migration between various administrative territories. However, if a person changes the place of residence within the boundaries of a town or county, the migratory movements of such a person are not counted, according to the recommendations of international organisations.
The population long-term migration during the period from 2000 to 2010 has been recalculated on the basis of information on non-registered emigration compiled within the Population and Housing Census 2011.
