Indicators Characterising Languages Used by the Population of Latvia
In 2017, Latvian was mother tongue of 60.8 % of the usually resident population of Latvia. The largest share of population having Latvian mother tongue was recorded in Vidzeme region (89.2 %).

The collection of statistics covers information on the number of children births and deaths, as well as age composition, state of health, education, social protection thereof, risk of material deprivation and monetary poverty in households with children, economic activity of children, use of information technologies, violence against children and children in conflict with law in 2018 and in comparison, with the previous years.
Increase in population number recorded only in Pierīga
In 2018 population number rose only in Pierīga – by 3.3 thousand or 0.9 %. Whereas the largest share of reduction in population number was recorded in Latgale region – 4.6 thousand or 1.7 %, in Vidzeme – 2.4 thousand (1.3 %), in Kurzeme – 2.9 thousand (1.2 %), in Zemgale – 2.4 thousand (1.0 %). Population number in Riga fell by 5.4 thousand or 0.8 %.
