Since the previous Population and Housing Census 2000 the population has decreased by 307 thousand population or by 13 %.

Every second young woman in Latvia has higher education
At the beginning of 2019, 51.1 % of all women in Latvia aged 25–34 had higher education, among men – only 28 %. Out of all persons having higher education in this age group 0.5 % had doctoral degree.
Population and Housing Census 2021 has begun
2021 is the year of the Population and Housing Census, which will differ from the previous years of the census in that the interviewers of the Central Statistical Bureau will not visit in person the population for interviews and individuals will not have to fill in electronic questionnaires.
In Latvia, 43.2% of families are raising minor children
In preparation for the Population and Housing Census 2021 from administrative data sources, the Central Statistical Bureau is starting to publish statistics on families and the level of education of the population.
