Foreign trade of Latvia in February 2008
Compared to January 2008, the total foreign trade turnover in current prices in February 2008 reached 1010.4 mln lats – more by 102.9 mln lats or 11.3% than a month before and more by 147.7 mln lats or 17.1% than in February last year, according to Central Statistical Bureau data.

In February 2008, in comparison with January 2008, the exports of pharmaceutical products at current prices soared up by 86.7%, of articles of iron or steel – by 28.6%, of sawn wood – by 10.2%. However, the exports of wood in the rough decreased by 46.2%, of iron and non-alloy steel – by 13.1%, and of furniture, including mattress and articles of bedding and similar furnishing – by 6.8%.
Compared to February 2007, the largest increase in exports was on veneer sheets and plywood – by 62.6%, on non-ferrous metals and articles thereof – by 47.5%, on electrical machinery and equipment – by 43.4%, however, the decrease in exports was on sawn wood – by 26.6%, on wood in the rough – by 24.6%, on iron and non-alloy steel – by 3.8%.

Compared to January 2008, in February 2008 the imports of machinery and mechanical appliances at current prices soared up by 32.3%, of motor spirit – by 32.2%, of iron and non-alloy steel – by 15.3%, of pharmaceutical products – by 14.4%, however, the decrease in imports was on diesel oil – by 21.5%, on natural gas – by 17.2%, and on passenger cars – by 13.8%.
Compared to February 2007 the largest imports increase was on diesel oil – by 62.0%, on motor spirits – by 42.5% and on iron and non-alloy steel – by 26.4%. However, significant decrease was on imports of passenger cars – by 36.7%, of pharmaceutical products – by 20.1% and of natural gas – by 13.9%.
