Environmental protection expenditure accounts
Environmental protection expenditure is the economic resources devoted to environmental protection. Environmental protection is defined as all activities directly aimed at the prevention, reduction and elimination of pollution or any other degradation of the environment.
Environmental protection expenditure accounts (EPEA) present the data on expenditure for environmental protection in a way that is compatible with national accounts.
Terms and definitions
Environmental investments are all outlays in a given year for machinery, equipment and land used for environmental protection purposes.
Gross capital formation [environmental protection]
Gross capital formation means gross of consumption of fixed capital for the production of environmental protection services for sale or for own use.
In the environmental protection expenditure accounts the term specialised producers refers to all producers the main activity whereof is provision of environmental protection services, regardless they belong to a group of private or public producers and perform market or non-market activities.
Final consumption of EP services by general government
Final consumption of EP services by general government is government expenditure on environmental protection services that are used for the direct satisfaction of individual needs (individual consumption) or collective needs of members of the community (collective consumption).
Survey method and data source
The data are compiled mainly using information compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (data of the national accounts, business statistics, report on expenditure on protection of national resources and environment (1-VA)), as well as information available in the Treasury (on local government and public institution expenditures on and revenue from environmental protection activities).
Total general government expenditure is classified by domains of the Classification of Environmental Protection Activities (CEPA) and broken down by type of expenditure on the basis of ESA 10 transactions.
