Imports and consumption of natural gas
Data on imports and consumption of natural gas are used to estimate circulation of natural gas in the country (million m3 and from 2018 MWh) and sectors of the national economy.
Data are complied in compliance with the Annexes B, C and D to the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No 1099/2008 (22 October 2008).

Other sectors
Imports of natural gas
Stock changes [natural gas]
The difference between natural gas stock level at the beginning (on the first day of the year) and at the end of the year (on the last day of the year).
The increase in stocks is shown as negative number, but the decrease in stocks – as positive.
Losses of natural gas
Kind of economic activity [energy]
Sphere of activity of the enterprise or individual that expresses itself in the produced goods or services.
The type is determined by Standard Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 1.1, starting from 2008 – NACE Rev. 2).
In 2008 the data were published according to both NACE Rev. 1.1 and NACE Rev. 2.
Energy sector
Final consumption [energy]
Consumption by industry, transport, households, agriculture, forestry, hunting, fishery, and other consumers (NACE Rev. 2 divisions 33, 36–39, 45–47, 52–96, 99).
Total consumption of natural gas
Transformation sector [natural gas]
Represents the value of natural gas consumed for the production of electricity and fuel consumed for production of sold heat.
Data collection and statistical processing
Survey method and data source
Annual data are collected and compiled in accordance with Eurostat methodology Natural Gas Annual Questionnaire and Energy Statistics Manual. Monthly data are surveyed and compiled in compliance with the methodology Monthly oil and gas questionnaire and Energy Statistics Manual of Eurostat.
Data on imports and consumption of natural gas are acquired with the help of full-scope survey, while annual data are calculated basing on the information from various data sources:
- Annual data:
- Annual statistical report form 1-gas "Report on use of natural gas";
- Annual statistical report form 2-EK "Report on purchase and use of energy resources";
- Annual statistical report form 1-energy "Report on production of heat and electricity";
- Monthly data:
- Monthly statistical report form 2-Gas "Report on the use of natural gas".
Target population
Target population of the monthly data includes joint-stock companies that are engaged in imports and consumption of the natural gas.
Annual data are acquired by surveying all economically active merchants, budgetary institutions, foundations, associations and funds engaged in import, export, consumption and sale of oil products.
Sample size
For the monthly data, in compliance with the target population, only one enterprise – importer of the natural gas is surveyed.
For the annual data approximately 5 thousand respondents are surveyed. Consumption of fuel in sectors of the national economy is found out by surveying State and local government enterprises of all sectors regardless the number of persons employed and by surveying other enterprises employing 80 and more persons. Data on enterprises and organisations employing less than 80 persons are acquired with the help of random sampling and afterwards obtained results are extrapolated.
Calculation methods
The consumption is calculated: imports + stock changes.
Classifications
Data on imports and consumption of oil products are complied and calculated in compliance with:
- EU Combined Nomenclature;
- Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 2).
