Data on enterprise groups are used to estimate number of enterprises by the kind of economic activity, number of international group enterprises, number of resident group enterprises and number of enterprises by countries.

Enterprise [Statistical business register]
The enterprise is the combination of legal units that is an organizational unit producing goods or services, which benefits from certain degree of autonomy in decision making.
An enterprise carries out one or more activities at one or more locations.
An enterprise may be sole unit or combination of legal units.
An enterprise group is an association of enterprises bound together by legal and/or financial links, which consists of the group head and enterprises of the group, which directly or indirectly are controlled by the group head.
Enterprise group may exist if it engages at least two companies, and more than 51% of the capital is owned or controlled by other enterprise or it has more than 51% of voting rights or they are under its control.

The controlled enterprise is a legal unit controlled by other company (group head).
Any entity engaged in economic activity may be considered as an legal unit irrespective of its legal form.
Data collection and statistical processing
Survey method and data source
Data on enterprise groups are obtained from:
- Statistical surveys and questionnaires carried out by the CSB;
- Information from State Revenue Service of the Republic of Latvia;
- European group register data base (holder of the database – Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat));
- Information from Enterprise Register of the Republic of Latvia.
Active enterprise groups listed in the Statistical Business Register of the Central Statistical Bureau, which have an influence on the Gross National Product of the Republic of Latvia.
Published data, if not specified as provisional, are final and are not revised, except situations when significant mistakes in enterprise reports are found.
Data on enterprise groups are collected and publishes using following classifications:
- Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 2);
- International standard codes of countries and territories (ISO 3166).
