Business tendency indicators in manufacturing present production activity changes in recent past and in the closest future and cover such aspects as the total level of orders and the level of export orders, the expected employment and product sales prices in the following months. The acquired data serve as the basis for economic analysis and short-term forecast. The main advantage of the Business Tendency Survey is the simplicity of the method for obtaining results and the timeliness, as well as continuous harmonisation within the framework of the European Union.

From this breakdown net (balance) is calculated as difference among shares of the final answers. For the question with three variants of answers net (N) of answers is calculated according the following formula:
S = ( "+" ) – ( "–" ), where
("+") – share of positive answers ("increased", "above regular") as per cent;
("–") – share of negative answers ("decreased", "below regular") as per cent.
Using net gives opportunity to express answers of the question in one number, changes in answers to this question by periods form simple dynamics row.
