Retail trade turnover grew by 5.0 % in February
Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) on the last month before declaration of emergency situation compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to February 2019, in February 2020 total retail trade turnover rose by 5.0 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 3.0%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 8.2 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 0.9 %.
Compared to February 2019, the most notable turnover rise was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 28.7 %), retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (of 25.9 %), as well as retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (23.0 %). Turnover decline was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 7.9 %) and retail sale of hardware, instruments, construction materials and sanitary equipment (4.0 %).
Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 8.8 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).
Compared to January, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in February 2020 rose by 3.5 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 0.7 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 5.4 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 4.7 %.
Compared to the previous month, the most notable turnover rise was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 13.0 %), retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (11.4 %), as well as retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (10.1 %). Turnover fell in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 3.5 %).
Compared to January, in February 2020 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 1.8 %.
