Construction in Latvia in the 2nd quarter of 2009

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2008 construction in Latvia in 2nd quarter of 2009 decreased by 32.4% (working day adjusted data at constant prices), according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau. Of which construction of buildings – by 47.3% and construction of civil engineering structures – by 15.8%.

Construction and repair of administrative buildings diminished by 41.7%, of motorways and streets – by 44.1%, of wholesale and retail trade buildings – by 56.4%, of residential buildings - by 71.6% and of industrial buildings and warehouses – by 78.3%. But volume of construction of bridges and tunnels grew by 162.1%, of main pipelines, communication and power lines - by 19.2%, and of health care and social care buildings – by 18.3%.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2009 volume of construction decreased by 9.1% (seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Of which construction of buildings reduced by 20.1% and volume of civil engineering structures constructed – by 5.1%.

Compared to the 1st half of 2008 volume of construction in the 1st half of 2009 (calculating at constant prices) has decreased by 31.8%. Of which construction of buildings reduced by 45.0% and volume of civil engineering structures constructed – by 13.7%.
