The CSB improves statistics on gender equality
To enhance discussion in society regarding gender equality, the Central Statistical Bureau has compiled data on differences between situation of males and that of females in society in Latvia and in the Baltic States.
In 2018, household disposable income increased by 11.7 %
Compared to 2017, in 2018 household disposable income increased by 11.7 %, reaching 546 euros per household member monthly. For the second year in a row, the growth rate of population income has been above 10 % (11.8 % – in 2017).
The first administrative data-based Population and Housing Census in Latvia
In 2021, Latvian Population and Housing Census for the first time will be conducted based solely on administrative data, thus following the practice of the Nordic countries.
In October value of goods exported from Latvia was 0.5 % larger than a year ago
In October 2019 the foreign trade turnover of Latvia amounted to EUR 2.56 billion, which at current prices was 7 % less than a year ago, of which the exports value of goods was 0.5 % higher, but imports value of goods was 12.8 % lower.
During the year, the average level of consumer prices increased by 2.1 %
In November 2019, compared to November 2018, the average level of consumer prices rose by 2.1 %. Prices of goods increased by 1.8 % and prices of services by 2.9 %.
In October, industrial production output rose by 3 %
Compared to October 2018, in October 2019 industrial production output increased by 3 % (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). Output rise in manufacturing constituted 1.8 %, in electricity and gas supply 11.9 %, while in mining and quarrying there was a drop of 19.6 %.
Freight and passenger transport continue to reduce
Compared to the nine months of 2018, during the nine months of 2019 the freight traffic with road and pipeline transport has decreased by 7.1 %.
1 091 euros received for the full-time work in the 3rd quarter
In the 3rd quarter of 2019, compared to the 3rd quarter of 2018, the average monthly gross wages and salaries grew by 8.3 % or EUR 84, reaching EUR 1 091 for full-time work. In the 1st and 2nd quarter, the growth rate was slower – 7.8 %.
GDP has grown by 2.9 % in the 3rd quarter
In the 3rd quarter of 2019, compared to the 3rd quarter of 2018, the gross domestic product (seasonally and calendar non-adjusted data) increased by 2.9 %.
In October retail trade turnover decreased by 0.4 %
Compared to October 2018, in October 2019 total retail trade turnover fell by 0.4 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products remained at the level of the previous year, but turnover of retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) – increased by 0.3 %, turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 3.2 %.
In October overall level of construction costs has remained the same
Compared to September, level of construction costs in Latvia in October 2019 remained the same. Labour remuneration of workers increased by 0.2 %, maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment did not change significantly, but prices of building materials reduced by 0.1 %.

Compared to September, in October 2019 the level of producer prices in Latvian industry dropped by 0.6 %. The level of prices of products sold on the domestic market dropped by 0.6 %, and prices of exported products – by 0.5 %.
In 2018, social protection expenditure increased by 11.5 %
In 2018 Latvian social protection expenditure accounted for EUR 4 440.2 million and, it has grown by EUR 457.9 million or 11.5 %, compared to 2017.
In the 3rd quarter of 2019, employed population of Latvia constituted 65.6 %
917.8 thousand people or 65.6 % of the population of Latvia aged 15–74 were employed in the 3rd quarter of 2019.
Latvian unemployment rate fell by 6.0 % in the 3rd quarter of 2019
Latvian unemployment rate constituted 6.0 % in the 3rd quarter of 2019. Compared to the previous quarter, unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage points, while over the year it reduced by 1.0 percentage points.
In the 3rd quarter, upturn in the number of tourists from the neighbouring countries
1.03 million foreign and Latvian visitors stayed at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments in the 3rd quarter of 2019, which is 0.5 % more than in the 3rd quarter of 2018.

In September 2019 the foreign trade turnover of Latvia amounted to EUR 2.44 billion, which at current prices was 1.6 % less than a year ago, of which the exports value of goods was 2.5 % higher, but imports value of goods was 4.6 % lower.
In the 3rd quarter of 2019, construction output grew by 5.9 %
Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2018, in the 3rd quarter of 2019 construction output increased by 5.9 % (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices).

In October 2019, compared to October 2018, the average level of consumer prices rose by 2.3 %. Prices of goods increased by 1.9 % and prices of services by 3.0 %.
