Data on the utilisation of agricultural area are showing breakdown thereof by the aim of land use (thousand hectares).

Definitions

Areas regularly farmed, usually in accordance with the crop rotation scheme of the holding.

It includes sown areas of agricultural crops, fallows, areas of strawberries, flowers and open areas of ornamental plants, open nurseries and utilised areas of greenhouses.

A detached or attached wooden, metal or mixed-material framework construction covered with glass, plastic or other transparent material. The height of the construction is sufficient to provide the opportunity to move inside the greenhouse.

Plantations of fruit trees and berry bushes, including new plantations.

Areas destined for the yield of pulses from both pure sowing and mix, where pulses prevail.

Agricultural area (arable land, permanent crops, meadows and pastures) actually managed by the holding, regardless of its type of tenure.

Areas which have been used to yield the forage crops for more than five years, and which are not included in the system of crop rotation.

Data are collected, calculated and published in compliance with:

  • Classification of the Administrative Territories and Territorial Units of the Republic of Latvia (CATTU);
  • Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS).

A Classification Catalogue with classification codes and their explanations has been published on the CSB website.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data on utilisation of agricultural area are obtained with the help of sample survey.

Data source is CSB statistical report form 2-ls "Crop production".

Target population

Economically active agricultural holdings.

Sample size

Sample has been formed as stratified simple random sampling. Holdings are stratified by their location (NUTS 3), type of farming and economic size.

Statistical processing

Calculation methods

Extrapolation of the data on the surveyed holdings to all agricultural holdings is based on the number of similar holdings represented by sampled holdings as well as actual response rate in each of the survey territories.

Data revision

Published data are final and are not revised.

Comparability over time

Data on utilisation of agricultural area are comparable since 1990.
