Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data on goods produced and sold are obtained with the help of enterprise survey, building a threshold sample. Data are collected from the CSB annual survey "Survey on production and sales of industrial goods" (statistical report form 1-Industry).

Provisional information on production and sale of various goods is collected and compiled till 21 June next year, final data are published in the November next year.

Target population

Data on the reference year are collected from economically active enterprises the main or secondary economic activity of which in compliance with NACE Rev. 2 is Mining and quarrying (Section B), Manufacturing (Section C) or Recovery of sorted materials (Class 38.32 of the Section E) and that in industrial production are employing 10 and more persons. In separate sectors, with an aim to ensure at least 90% of the national production volume during the reference year, enterprises employing fewer people are included in each class of the NACE Rev. 2.

Statistical processing

Calculation methods

Data on the types of industrial products manufactured are acquired by summing data submitted by enterprises, in line with the codes of PRODCOM classification and groups of separate codes, to ensure that time series are comparable.

Data revision

Revision of the published data is carried out if significant mistakes in enterprise reports are found or if respondent specifies some information. Revised data are published at next publication time and the last three years are revised.

Comparability over time

Data on manufactured goods in terms of volume and value are available at 10-digit level of PRODCOM classification since 2007.

Data on sale of manufactured goods, by summing groups of separate PRODCOM classification codes, are available since 2000.

International comparability

The Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on its homepage publishes information on industry in EU-28 and in each individual country: Statistics/ Industry, trade and services/ Short-term business statistics/ Database/ Industry.

Confidentiality of the information provided by respondents is protected by the Section 17 of the Statistics Law stipulating rights and obligations of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia and other state authorities producing official statistics. Read more
