Data on the activity of rural accommodation establishments are used to determine type of accommodation establishments, time of arrival of visitors (months), characteristics of accommodation (number of rooms, bed places and visitors) and financial indicators (income from serving visitors and additional services).

Definitions

Each night a guest spends (sleeps or stays) or is registered (physical presence is not required) in a tourist accommodation establishment.

Number of bed places in the accommodation establishment is determined as the number of bed places available over a day.

People that have arrived to spend a night in accommodation establishments outside the usual environment, including children with no limit of age.

Same day visitors that have spent a few hours in accommodation establishment and whose day of arrival coincides with the day of departure are not included in the total number of visitors.

Number of bed places available in the accommodation establishment is determined as the number of bed places available over a day.

A type of tourism the objective of which is, on the basis of local social, cultural and nature resources, to offer tourists the opportunity for recreation or the use of the tourist accommodation in rural territory.

Building, group of buildings or facilitated area (territory), where merchant or performer of economic activity provides overnight accommodation and service for tourists.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data are obtained conducting a full-scope survey and collected from the CSB statistical report form 1-rural tourism "Activity of rural tourism accomodation establishments". To create the list of respondents, information from regional tourism associations and tourism information centres is obtained.

Statistical population

Economically active individual merchants, commercial companies and private persons, which provide accommodation services in small-capacity accommodation establishments outside Riga. Starting with 2017, the respective target population is included within the overall scope of accommodation establishment respondents – see the section Latvian hotels and other accommodation establishments.

Data revision

The data published are final and are not the subject of revisions.

Data on rural tourism establishments are available since 2007until 2016.
