Data on number of housings and residential buildings are used to estimate their number, total floor space in statistical regions, cities under state jurisdiction and districts.


One or several residential rooms envisaged for permanent residence (residential house, apartment in multi-dwelling building, room in communal apartment, etc.).

Usually dwelling has definite address.

The overall residential floor space includes kitchens, living rooms and auxiliary rooms, cellars and premises for common use by the owners of the housing units.

Residential building is a construction with more than half of the total floor space used for residential purposes. The total floor space of residential buildings includes area of residential premises (dwellings, rooms, kitchens and utility rooms), non-residential premises, as well as premises for common use of all building residents.

Data are collected and published using the following classifications:

  • Classification of Constructions (CC);
  • Classification of Administrative Territories and Territorial Units (CATTU).

A Classification Catalogue with classification codes and their explanations has been published on the CSB website.

Survey method and data source

Data on the number of residential buildings and housings were obtained by way of processing the data obtained from the information system of the National Cadastre of Real Property of the State Land Service.

Data revision

Data are not revised after publishing.


Comparability over time

Data on number of housings and residential buildings are available from 2002 till 2009.
