Data on CHP plant activities are compiled with an aim to find out the number of CHP plants, electrical capacity installed, electricity and heat produced, as well as to estimate the number of CHP plants by the type of fuel consumed.

Definitions

Simultaneous generation of electricity and heat in the same technological device and cycle using natural gas, biogas, solid fuels, liquid fuels and fuelwood.

Power plant consisting of cogeneration devices and heat peak load boiler devices.

CHP plants are classified according to the purpose of production:

  • public CHP plants main activity of which is production of electricity and heat (NACE Rev. 2 Division 35);
  • autoproducer CHP plants that are generating electricity and heat for their own technological use and selling part of the produced heat (NACE Rev. 2, except NACE Rev. 2 Division 35).

Electrical capacity of CHP plant is total maximum capacity of the device if power plant is working in full cogeneration mode and has started its work at least three months before the end of the reference period.

Total heating capacity generated in devices producing heat if CHP plant has started its work at least three months before the end of the reference period.

Installed heating capacity of CHP plants that for the production of heat are using both cogeneration devices and water heating boilers is shown including capacity of these boilers.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data are acquired with the help of full-scope survey from several data sources:

  • CSB annual statistical report form 1-energy "Report on production of heat and electricity";
  • Annex to the CSB annual statistical report form "Annex to the report 1-energy".

Information is compiled on all branches of national economy. Data in breakdown by fields are compiled by the main kind of economic activity.

Statistical population

All CHP plants that have started their work at least three months before the end of the reference period.

Data revision

Data may be adjusted.

Comparability

Comparability over time

Data on number and activities of the CHP plants as well as information on CHP plants in breakdown by type of fuel consumed are available since 2007.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality of the information provided by respondents is protected by the Section 17 of the Statistics Law stipulating rights and obligations of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia and other state authorities producing official statistics. Read more
