Data on New Orders Index allows estimating trends in external market orders and are used to forecast volume of production and turnover in future.

Definitions

Value of new orders includes all orders (agreements, contracts) concluded and coordinated during the reference period (month) relating producer and third party in respect to the supply of goods or services.

New orders index characterizes changes in volume of new orders in manufacturing during the reference period, in comparison with the base period.

Additional information

In some cases, due to specifics of electronic data processing technologies and rounding adjustments, slight discrepancies may occur between totals and sums of components.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data indices of new orders are obtained from enterprise survey creating a threshold sample. Data are collected from CSB monthly report form 12-r "Survey on industrial activity and volume of new orders in industry".

Each month starting from the 15th date the information on the volume of new orders of industrial production at current prices is collected within ten days according to classes of Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 2).

Target population

Economically active enterprises the main or secondary economic activity of which is Manufacturing (Section C) classified in sub-sections: 13 (Manufacture of textiles), 14 (Manufacture of wearing apparel), 17 (Manufacture of paper and paper products), 20 (Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products), 21 (Manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations), 24 (Manufacture of basic metals), 25 (Manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment), 26 (Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products), 27 (Manufacture of electrical equipment), 28 (Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.), 29 (Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers), and 30 (Manufacture of other transport equipment), in industrial production employing 20 or more persons or turnover of which in the year before comprised EUR 427 thousand or more.

Calculation methods

The index of new orders is undeflated simple weighted index.

Turnover of industrial enterprises of 2005 in breakdown by domestic market and export and by NACE Rev. 2 sections, divisions, groups and classes is used as weights in the calculation of index of new orders. Monthly average volume of new orders of 2005 is used as base for the comparison.

For more complete analysis of the data they are adjusted. Seasonally adjusted data in time series analysis allow assessing changes in economic processes more objectively, eliminating influence of seasonality and calendar (e.g., Easter, Ligo, or Christmas). Starting from the 2nd quarter of 2011 only non-adjusted and seasonally adjusted data are published.

When adding new values to the time series or when correcting indicator value in the time series, parameters of the selected model in the time series are revised, thus maximally eliminating influence of seasonal changes/varying number of working days on the economic indicator fluctuations. It should be considered that, when supplementing or changing indicator values, also value of seasonally/calendar adjusted time series are changing.

Base period

2005 is base or reference period (2005=100).

Data revision

Published data are not revised. In the reference period the volume of cancelled orders is not excluded.

Comparability

Comparability over time

Data are available since 2000.
