Annual data are published in relevant month of the year, when running rules of Cabinet of Ministers come into force.

The quarterly data are published one in quarter in first week after the end of the quarter.

The monthly data are published together with data on relevant quarter.

Survey method and source data

According to Labour Law the Cabinet of Ministers defines the minimum monthly wage.

The principles for minimum monthly wage specification and review are defined by Cabinet Regulation No 390 of 17 May, 2011 "Procedures for the Specification and Review of the Minimum Monthly Wage". This Regulation stipulates that the Ministry of Welfare in cooperation other Ministries shall each year evaluate the economic situation in the country and submit a proposal for the amount of minimum monthly wage for the following period.

Each year by 1 June, the Ministry of Welfare shall submit a proposal regarding the retention, raising or reduction of the minimum monthly wage for the subsequent period and the date for the implementation of the relevant changes, for co-ordination to the National Tripartite Cooperation Council. The Council shall invite the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments to the examination of the proposal referred to.

Within two weeks after examination by the National Tripartite Cooperation Council of the proposal, the Ministry of Welfare shall submit it to the Cabinet.

The minimum monthly wage at certain date, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. Average monthly and quarterly data during the relevant period of time.

The published data are final and are not adjusted.

International comparability


The Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on its website publishes information on monthly minimum wages in EU and in each individual country (bi-annual statistics).
