Data on purchase of milk are characterising volume of milk produced and purchased in Latvia, average prices and average content of fat and proteins in milk. The data on volume of meat produced in slaughter houses characterise the number of livestock bred in Latvia and volume of meat produced in Latvian slaughterhouses.

Definitions

Average fat content in milk is per cent content of product mass calculated as mean arithmetical in the country.

Average protein content in milk is per cent content of product mass calculated as mean arithmetical in the country.

The total volume of meat (in slaughter weight) produced in slaughter houses accredited by the Food and Veterinary Service from livestock bred in Latvia.

Chilled weight of slaughtered livestock or poultry after bleeding, skinning, removal of bowels and separation of head, legs, tail and genitals.

Kidneys and suet is included in slaughter weight.

Volume of purchased milk is total amount of purchased fresh milk, which milk procurement and processing enterprises purchase from milk producers in Latvia.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

From 2002 to 2006, the data source used for the milk purchase statistics is monthly statistical questionnaire 13-purchase "Report on Purchase of Milk".
As of 1 January 2007, the data source used for the milk purchase statistics is the Milk Producer Register managed by the Agricultural Data Centre.
The data on the livestock slaughtered in slaughterhouses and produced meat are acquired within a full-scope survey.
The data source used for the respective statistics is the monthly statistical questionnaire 11- purchase "Report on Purchase and Slaughtering of Livestock " and data of the Slaughterhouse Electronic Reporting System managed by the Agricultural Data Centre.

Target population

All milk procurement and processing enterprises, which purchase milk from all kinds of farms.

All slaughterhouses acknowledged by the FVS purchasing livestock for slaughtering from Latvian agricultural holdings of all types7

In each next period data on previous periods may be corrected.
