Data on local units of economically active enterprises are used to obtain information on the kind of economic activity of local units of enterprise.

Definitions

The local unit is an enterprise or a part thereof (e.g. a workshop, factory, warehouse, office, mine or depot) situated in a geographically identified place.

Economic activity is carried out at or from this place and for doing so – with certain exceptions – one or more persons work (even if only part-time) for one and the same enterprise.

Legal and natural persons who sell mainly their own produce or only own-produced goods or services at a specified price, which is economically meaningful.

This sector classifies the following: self-employed natural persons, individual enterprises, peasant and fishermen’s farms, individual merchants and commercial companies, exclude commercial companies controlled by general government.

Legal persons providing services free of charge or at a price, which is not economically meaningful. 

This sector classifies central and local government institutions, funds, foundations and associations, include commercial companies controlled by general government.

Data on local units of economically active enterprises are collected and published using Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 2).

A Classification Catalogue with classification codes and their explanations has been published on the CSB website.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data on local units of economically active enterprises are obtained from several data sources:

  • Sample surveys carried out by the CSB (report form 1-register "Update form of the register of statistical enterprises", 3-register "Update form of the register of statistical enterprises", 1-DVV "Local kind of activity unit of an enterprise (institution)");
  • Information from the Taxpayer registry of State Revenue Service of the Republic of Latvia;
  • Data from enterprises registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia.

Target population

All local units that are situated in a geographically identified place and at this place or from this place during the reference period economic activity is carried out where, with some exceptions, one or more persons work (even if only part-time) for one and the same enterprise.

Data revision

Data published, if not specified as provisional, are final and are not revised, except situations when significant mistakes in enterprise reports are found.

Data on local units of  economically active enterprises are available from 2007.
