Fishery data characterise information on catch of different fish (thousand tons) in various fishing grounds.

Definitions

Fish catch for commercial purposes in ocean, open sea, coastal and inland waters; taking of marine and freshwater crustaceans, molluscs and invertebrates; gathering of marine algae; processing of fish, crustaceans and molluscs aboard the fisher boats, operation of fish hatcheries and fish farms and service activities related to marine and freshwater fisheries.

The volume of freshwater fish catch includes fish and crustaceans that have been grown for sale in fish farms.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Fishery data are acquired with the help of calculations based on following data sources:

  • CSB statistical report forms:
    • annual – 1-aquaculture "Survey on aquaculture";
    • quarterly – 1-fishery "Survey on fishery";
  • data of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, Fishery Department;
  • data of the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment.

Fishery data are available in breakdown by fishing grounds.

Target population

Economically active merchants engaged in fishery.

Data revision

The published data are final and are not revised.

Comparability over time

Data on fish cash are available since 2000.
