Data on enterprise groups are used to estimate number of enterprises by the kind of economic activity, number of international group enterprises, number of resident group enterprises and number of enterprises by countries.

Definitions

The controlled enterprise is a legal unit controlled by other company (group head).

Direct activities of the head enterprise with the fixed capital of enterprise/legal unit.

The enterprise is the combination of legal units that is an organizational unit producing goods or services, which benefits from certain degree of autonomy in decision making.

An enterprise carries out one or more activities at one or more locations.

An enterprise may be sole unit or combination of legal units.

An enterprise group is an association of enterprises bound together by legal and/or financial links. It consists of the group head and enterprises of the group, which are directly or indirectly controlled by the group head.

The “enterprise group” statistical unit may exist if it engages at least two enterprises, and 51 % and more of the capital is owned or controlled by another enterprise or it has 51 % and more of the voting rights or the enterprises are under its control.

The group head is a parent legal unit, which controls either directly or indirectly one or several other legal units.

Control of the enterprise/ legal unit trough other company.

Any entity engaged in economic activity may be considered as an legal unit irrespective of its legal form.

A multinational enterprise group which has at least two enterprises or legal units located in different countries.

An enterprise group composed of at least two companies or legal units that are all resident in the same country.

  • Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 2);
  • International standard codes of countries and territories (ISO 3166).

A Classification Catalogue with classification codes and their explanations has been published on the CSB website.

Data collection

Survey method and source data

Data on enterprise groups are obtained from:

  • Statistical surveys and questionnaires carried out by the CSB;
  • Information from State Revenue Service of the Republic of Latvia;
  • European group register data base (holder of the database – Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat));
  • Information from Enterprise Register of the Republic of Latvia.

Target population

Active enterprise groups listed in the Statistical Business Register of the Central Statistical Bureau, which have an influence on the Gross National Product of the Republic of Latvia.

Data revision

Published data, if not specified as provisional, are final and are not revised, except situations when significant mistakes in enterprise reports are found.
