Data on the number of employed provide information on the number of employed in breakdown by administrative territory of the Republic of Latvia, in which actual workplace of the employee is located. Data are used to estimate average employment in Latvia.

Definitions

Average annual number of employed according to administrative territory of the Republic of Latvia where actual workplace of employee is located.

Average number of employees in labour relations, for whom employer pays taxes.

Natural persons carrying out economic activity and which are registered in State Revenue Service as self-employed persons and submit annual income declaration form D3 "Income from economic activity" to SRS.

Data Collection

Survey method and data source

Data on number of employed by actual workplace are obtained by conducting sample survey and using administrative data sources.

The sources of data are complex annual reports on the activities of merchants and institutions (1-annual, 2-annual), report on local kind of activity units of merchants and institutions (1-DVV) and administrative data sources.

As administrative data are used the State Revenue Service information from the Report on payments made to natural persons, from Report on state social security compulsory payments from employee income, Income Tax and Business Risk State Duty during the reference month, from Micro-enterprise Tax Declaration and from 

Target Population

All economically active merchants, budgetary institutions, foundations, associations and funds (henceforth – respondents).

Sample size

In 2016, 4901 respondents were surveyed with the help of the statistical report form 1-DVV. Budgetary institutions, commercial companies with central or local government capital participation 50% and over and all commercial companies of the private sector with 50 and more employees or having a certain level of turnover are surveyed fully, other merchants and organizations are surveyed with the help of simple stratified sampling, as well as, using information from the administrative data sources.

Statistical Processing

Calculation Method

The information is obtained from the forms submitted by the respondents and administrative data sources. Data on statistical units included in economically active enterprise population, but not submitting statistical report forms 1-DVV, 1-annual or 2-annual are calculated by using administrative data sources. Weight 1 is applied for all statistical units.

Revision

The published data (if not marked as provisional) are final and are not reviewed, except for cases when significant errors are identified in the reports of enterprises.
Provisional data are published 11 months after the reference year, whereas final data are published 18 months after the reference year.

Confidentiality of the information provided by respondents is protected by the Section 17 of the Statistics Law stipulating rights and obligations of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia and other state authorities producing official statistics. Read more
