Data on breakdown of net turnover of trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles enterprises by groups of commodities are used for the sale structure analysis.

Definitions

Turnover is income from sale of goods and provision of services, from which trade discounts are subtracted, as well as value added tax (VAT) and other taxes, which are directly related with sale.

This group includes all activities (except of production and rent) which are related to motor vehicles and motorcycles, including lorries and heavy freight vehicles, for example, wholesale and retail trade of new and used vehicles and parts thereof, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles. It also includes activity of commission trade agents related to retail trade and wholesale of motor vehicles. This group does not include retail sale of automotive fuel in filling stations.

Trade enterprise of motor vehicles and motorcycles and parts thereof is a company, main activity of which is retail sale and wholesale of motor vehicles and motorcycles and parts thereof.

Classifications

Data are collected and published using following classifications:

  • until 2005:
    • Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE  Rev. 1.1);
    • Production and services classification according to kind of activity (CPA);
  • from 2010:
    • Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev. 2);
    • Production and services classification according to kind of activity (CPA 2008).

A Classification Catalogue with classification codes and their explanations has been published on the CSB website.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data are obtained conducting sample survey.

Information are collected from CSB annual report form 1-trade (motor vehicles) "Report on wholesale, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles".

Target population

Data are obtained on all economically active enterprises main activity of which is wholesale, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (NACE Rev. 2 Division 45), in smaller breakdown by NACE classes:

  • NACE 45.11 – Sale of cars and light motor vehicles;
  • NACE 45.19 – Sale of other motor vehicles;
  • NACE 45.20 – Maintenance and repair of motor vehicles;
  • NACE 45.31 – Wholesale trade of motor vehicle parts and accessories;
  • NACE 45.32 – Retail trade of motor vehicle parts and accessories;
  • NACE 45.40 – Sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and related parts.

Sample size

The enterprises for the survey are selected with the help of simple stratified random sampling. The enterprises are stratified by kind of economic activity according to the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities and turnover. The higher the turnover, the bigger the opportunity for the enterprise to be included in the sample.

In 2010 out of 2.9 thsd enterprises 515 were surveyed;

In 2005  out of 2.6 thsd companies 585 were surveyed;

In 2000 out of 2.2 thsd enterprises 655 were surveyed.

Statistical processing

Calculation methods

Information obtained in the result of data processed is extrapolated to all population, using weights, and characterizes all sector surveyed in the country.

Data obtained are compared to data of Structural Business Statistics (SBS), but as different data sampling and processing methods are used slight variations of the data are admissable (not more than 5%).

Data revision

The data published are final and are not revised, except cases when significant mistakes are found in the company reports.
