The data on the volume and prices of roundwood purchased by enterprises are compiled once in six months and are used to calculate average purchase prices of roundwood (pine sawlogs, spruce sawlogs, birch sawlogs and veneer logs, black alder sawlogs, asp sawlogs and packaging timber) in Latvia (EUR/m3, excluding WAT).


Roundwood that will be used for the production of packaging.

Pruned trunks/trunk segments with bark of coniferous or deciduous trees in various diameters, lengths and assortments felled in forest or outside it and used as raw material for further re-seeding.

Roundwood sawn (or chipped) lengthways for the manufacture of sawnwood or sleepers.

Roundwood used for the production of veneer (mainly sliced and rotary-cut).

Until 2008, data on the average purchase prices timber were compiled by using Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE) Rev. 1.1, while staring from 2009 NACE Rev. 2 is used.

Data collection

Survey method and data source

Data on average purchase prices of timber are acquired with the help of sample survey by using CSB semi-annual statistical report form 1-timber "Report on purchase of timber".

Statistical population

Statistical population covers economically active statistical units having NACE Rev. 2 activity code 16.10, 16.21 and economically active statistical units main or secondary activity of which is none of the sectors mentioned, but which last year have purchased timber.

Sample size

Enterprises are surveyed twice a year, and data are extrapolated.

Sample size comprises 500 enterprises.

Calculation methods

Volume of timber purchased, its value and average price are calculated.

Data revision

The published data are final and are not revised.


Comparability over time

Data on average purchase prices of wood are available since 2006.
