Data on average prices of energy resources for final consumers are used to estimate average prices of various energy resources in all sectors of national economy.

Definitions

Average price of energy resources is calculated by dividing costs of energy resources with volume of energy resources purchased. Average prices are given excluding value added tax (VAT).

Average prices of energy resources for final consumers are calculated in compliance with the methodology of the Energy Balance.

Data collection

Survey method and source data

Data on average prices of energy resources are acquired with the help of calculations from several data sources:

  • Annual statistical report form 2-EK "Report on purchase and use of energy resources";
  • Annual statistical report form 1-energy "Report on production of heat and electricity";
  • Customs declarations on trade with third countries;
  • INTRASTAT monthly surveys of enterprises engaged in trade with EU Member States.

Target population

Statistical population covers all economically active merchants, budgetary institutions, associations and foundations engaged in the production, import, export, consumption and sale of energy resources.

Sample size

Consumption of fuel in sectors of the national economy is found out by surveying State and local government enterprises of all sectors regardless the number of persons employed and by surveying other enterprises employing 80 and more persons. Every year approximately 5 thousand respondents are surveyed. Data on enterprises and organisations employing less than 80 persons are acquired with the help of random sampling and afterwards obtained results are extrapolated.

Data revision

Data may be adjusted.

Comparability

Comparability over time

Data on the average prices of energy resources for final consumers are available since 2006.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality of the information provided by respondents is protected by the Section 17 of the Statistics Law stipulating rights and obligations of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia and other state authorities producing official statistics. Read more
