Data on adult education are used to find out information on adults participating or not participating in education in breakdown by age, sex, educational attainment or level of education and labour status.

Definitions

Multi-dimensional educational process of persons (in age group 25–64 years) which ensures the development of the individual and his or her competitiveness in the labour market.

System which includes levels of basic education, secondary education and higher education the programme acquirement of which is ensured by education or professional qualification document accredited by the government, as well as by education and professional qualification document.

All training activities organized outside formal education system which are organized as trainings, conventions, lectures, seminars or workshops.

The aim of non-formal education is to acquire or improve skills, knowledge or competence related both to work and to social and personal aims.

Data collection

Survey method and source data

In 2007 adult education data were acquired with the help of sample survey "Adult Education".

In 2011 adult education data were acquired with the help of CSB statistical report form "Adult Education Survey"; before surveying respondents received an invitation with a request to participate in the survey.

Statistical population

In 2011 Adult Education Survey covered population aged 25–64 living within the territory of Latvia. Residents were surveyed on their participation in education activities during the time period from September 2010 till September 2011.

In 2007 Adult Education Survey covered population aged 25–64 living within the territory of Latvia. Residents were surveyed on their participation in education activities during the time period from June 2006 till July 2007.

Sample size

Survey of 2011 covered 5 048 residents aged 25–64.

In 2007 survey engaged 4 611 persons aged 25–64.
