On retail trade turnover in March 2009

Total retail trade turnover in March 2009 constituted LVL 301.2 mln, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau, of which excluding automotive fuel – LVL 254.4 mln. In 1st quarter 2009 these indicators comprised LVL 898.3 mln and LVL 758.4 mln, respectively.

Compared to February, in March 2009 it has decreased by 2.6%, according to seasonally adjusted data (at constant prices). Retail trade of food products has decreased by 4.5%, but retail trade of non-food products – by 1.5%.

Compared to March 2008 in March of this year, according to working (trade) day adjusted data, calculating at constant prices, total retail trade turnover has decreased by 27.3%. Still larger decrease of volume is in non-food products group – by 30.7%, smaller – in companies selling mainly food products – by 20.6%.

Compared to IV quarter of 2008 in I quarter of 2009 retail trade turnover has decreased by 14.1%, according to seasonally adjusted data (calculating at constant prices), of which in companies selling mainly food products – by 9.9%, but selling mainly non-food products – by 16.2%.

Compared to I quarter of 2008, according to working (trade) day adjusted data, decrease of retail trade was larger – by 24.5%. Retail trade turnover volume of food products has dropped by 16.9%, however, in retail trade of non-food products it has reduced by 28.1%.
