On occupied posts and job vacancies at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2009

Compared to the end of the June the number of occupied posts in the country at the end of the September of this year has reduced by 56.1 thsd or by 6.6%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau. In private sector the number reduced by 28.8 thsd or by 5.4%, but in public sector – by 27.3 thsd or by 8.8%.

Compared to the end of September of the last year, at the end of the 3rd quarter of this year in the country 233.9 thsd posts were liquidated and that, in turn, decreased the number of occupied posts by 22.8%. In private sector 189.8 thsd posts were liquidated, but in public sector – 44.1 thsd, and as a result number of occupied posts reduced by 27.2% and 13.4%, respectively.

At the end of the 3rd quarter of 2009 there were 2.0 thsd job vacancies. Compared to the end of the 2nd quarter their number has reduced by 0.3 thsd vacancies, but in comparison with the end of the 3rd quarter of 2008 – by 6.1 thsd.

Job vacancy rate has decreased from 0.8% at the end of the September of the last year to 0.3% at the end of the September of this year.

In private sector job vacancy rate has reduced from 0.3% at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2008 to 0.1% at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2009, but in public sector – from 1.8% to 0.5%, respectively.

In public administration and defence sector the highest share of job vacancies at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2009 was recorded in public order and safety institutions, as well as in justice institutions.

Explanations

In accordance with the survey methodology, job vacancy is defined as a post for which no contract has been signed and no candidate chosen and the employer is taking active steps to find a suitable candidate from outside the enterprise, and which will be filled immediately or within 3 months.The rate of job vacancies is calculated in per cent, by dividing the number of job vacancies by the total number of posts (occupied + vacant).
The public sector includes central and local government institutions and commercial companies with central or local government capital participation 50% and over, public organisations and commercial companies thereof.
