Workshop of Baltic-Nordic-Ukrainian Network on Survey Statistics
The Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia in cooperation with the University of Latvia and Latvian Association of Statisticians is organising international Baltic-Nordic-Ukrainian Workshop on Survey Statistics with an aim to learn about latest scientific achievements in the world. The seminar will take place from 23.08.2012 till 29.08.2012 in the premises of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in Valmiera, and this will be already the 16th workshop of such kind.
Sample surveys are significant in the production of official statistics, because such an approach ensures that qualitative statistics may be produced with rather small expenses. Long-term Baltic State and Nordic Country cooperation in the field of surveys allowed producing official statistics with the help of wide range of data from enterprise and household sample surveys already in the 2nd half of 90-ties, furthered maintenance and establishment of close contacts among national statistical institutions and universities, as well as facilitated training of new specialists in this field. Many lecturers and students of the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University were able to increase their knowledge about and conduct researches on topical issues of sample survey theory and methodology in Umea, Stockholm and Helsinki universities. During these years Latvian students have worked out and successfully defended one doctoral dissertation and more than 35 master and bachelor papers on sample surveys.
Workshop is alternately organised by one of the countries – participants.
