Statistician of the CSB receives prestigious International Association for Official Statistics Prize
Svetlana Jesiļevska, Statistician of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB), has received Young Statistician Prize of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS). In the contest in competition of 35 researchers from 27 countries Svetlana Jesiļevska has received award for research "Iterative method for the reducing the impact of outlying data points: ensuring data completeness".
Author of the research solves the problem of ensuring data completeness so that they can be used for further processing. The research is topical because outlying data – data values which significantly differ from the majority – are frequent in sample surveys. Method developed by Svetlana Jesiļevska provides several steps in identification of outlying data points and reduction of their impact on the overall results and data quality.
Young Statistician Prize award ceremony will take place in July 2015 in World Statistics Congress in Rio de Janeiro.
