Sown area, total production and average yield of agricultural crops in 2006

12.02.2007

The data of Central Statistical bureau shows that in 2006 the total sown area under principal agriculture crops has increased ; in comparison with previous year by 42,9 thsd. ha or by 9,1%. Unfavourable weather in all vegetation period influenced yield of principal crops. In 2006 are harvested 1.2 milj. tons of crops, , that is for 155.6 thsd. tons or for 11.8% less than in 2005.

The average yield of crops has decreased from 28.0 cnt from 1 ha in 2005 to 22.6 cnt in 2006.

In comparison with previous year, production of winter cereals decreased by 16.2 thsd. tons or by 2.6%, although in 2006 winter cereals are harvested in considerably bigger areas – by 23.4 thsd. ha or by 12.5% more than in previous year.

The sown areas of all winter cereals increased, except triticale. In 2006, in comparison with 2005, is harvested by 20.3 thsd. ha or by 15.4% more winter wheat. The proportion of them in total sawn area of cereals increased to 29.8%, but in total yield of cereals up to 39.8%. Meanwhile, by decreasing average production of winter wheat from 37.7 cnt from 1 ha in 2005 to 30.3 cnt from 1 ha in 2006, total production decreased by 36.4 thsd. tons or by 7.3%. The sawn areas of rye in 2006 increased by 3.5 thsd .ha or by 8.8%, in comparison with 2005; increased also total production –by 29.6 thsd. tons or by 33.8%, with increase of average yield of rye from 22.2 cnt from 1 ha in 2005 to 27.3 cnt from 1 ha in 2006. But it must be mentioned that in 2005 the average production of rye was remarkably lower than production of other winter cereals. The tritacle sawn area reduced by 2.0 thsd. ha or by 15.0%, but, by decreasing of average production from 23.9 cnt from 1 ha in 2005 to 19.6 cnt from 1 ha in 2006, the total production of tritacle decreased by 30.3%.

The spring cereals total sawn area in 2006 increased by 19.5 thsd. ha or by 6.9%, in comparison with previous year, but especially unfavourable drought influenced yield of spring cereals. The total production of cereals decreased by 139.4 thsd. tons or by 20.2%. Although sawn areas increased for all spring cereals, total production remarkably decreased. Spring wheat sawn areas in 2006, in comparison with 2005, increased by 7.4 thsd. ha or by 13.4%, but total production decreased by 41.8 thsd .tons or by 23.4%, barley are sown by 3.9 thsd .ha or by 2.7% more, but total production decreased by 59.0 thsd .tons or by 16.5%, sawn area of oats increased by 4.9 thsd .ha or by 8.4%, but total production decreased by 30.4 thsd .tons or by 24.8%, area of mixed cereals increased by 1.2 thsd .ha or by 32.1%, but total production decreased by 0.6 thsd. tons or by 8.3%, area of buckwheat increased by 3.6 thsd .ha, but total production decreased by 3.0 thsd .tons or by 30.4%. The average production of spring cereals from 1 ha was only 18.2 cnt and it is lowest in previous five years.

In comparison with previous year, increased proportion of withered cereals or cereals that were not harvested. In 2006 withered or harvested were not 19.5 thsd .ha of cereal sawn area or 3.5% from sawn areas (in 2005 - 5.4 thsd. ha or 1.2%).

Summarized data about crop purchase in crop procurement and processing enterprises and businesses shows, that in 2006 is purchased by 64.9 thsd. tons or by 12.1% less crops than previous year. The amount of purchased wheat decreased by 64.6 thsd. tons, counting food wheat – by 30.8 thsd. tons. Unfavourable weather did not affect the quality of cereals. Food wheat proportion in total purchased wheat amount in 2006 increased to 60.5% (in 2005 – 40.6%). In 2006 is purchased 26.0 thsd. tons more wheat than previous year. Food wheat proportion in purchased wheat total amount increased to 80.1% (in 2005 – 20.0%). Remarkably have grown average purchase prices - from 59.80 Ls per ton in 2005 to 73.33 Ls per ton in 2006, counting food wheat - from 70.34 Ls to 81.50 Ls per ton, food rye – from 60.90 Ls to 68.21 Ls per ton of cereals.

In 2006 the areas of pulses continued to decrease – by 36.8% in comparison with previous year, also total production decreased by 2.1 thsd. tons or by 58.9%.

Reasonably increased sawn areas of winter and spring rape – by 4.0 thsd. ha or 17.9% and by 7.8 thsd .ha or 15.9%. Unfavourable weather influenced also yield of rape - average yield decreased from 28.4 cnt from 1 ha in 2005 to 21.0 cnt from 1 ha in 2006 of winter rape and from 16.7 cnt to 11.4 cnt of spring rape. Total production of rape decreased by 25.1 thsd. tons or by 17.2%, in comparison with previous year.

The area of potatoes stayed in level of previous year, but, by decrease of average yield from 145.9 cnt from 1 ha to 122.2 cnt from 1 ha in 2006, harvested by 107.3 thsd .tons or by 16.3% less potatoes than previous year.

Sawn areas of sugar beets decreased by 0.8 thsd. ha or by 6.2%, in comparison with 2005. Average yields decreased by 11 cnt from ha, also total production decreased by 46.0 thsd. tons or by 8.8%.

Areas of open field vegetables increased by 0.5 thsd. ha, but average yield decreased from 123.1 cnt from 1 ha in 2005 to115.6 cnt from1 ha in 2006. The total production of all kinds of vegetables, counting grown in hothouses, increased by 2.2 thsd .tons or by 1.3%. this increase was influenced by increase of total production of vegetables in closed areas by 42.7%.

Remarkably increased areas of perennial grass lands for hay – by 45.0 thsd. ha or by 23.0% and cereals and pulses for green feed and silage – by13.1 thsd. ha or by 21.4%, in comparison with previous year.
