In September, retail trade turnover grew by 0.5 %

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to September 2015, total retail trade turnover in September 2016 rose by 0.5 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products decreased by 1.8 %, whereas the turnover of retail trade in non-food products increased by 1.6 %.

Compared to September 2015, in September 2016 the most significant turnover growth in the non-food product group was recorded in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 12.2 %), in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 11.3 %), in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 9.1 %), in retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (of 7.3 %) and in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 6.2 %). In turn, a drop in turnover was recorded in retail sale of electrical household appliances (of 16.2 %), in retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 2.6 %), as well as in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 1.6 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 0.9 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to August, the total retail trade turnover in September 2016 decreased by 0.8 % (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Turnover of retail trade in food products increased by 0.3 %, whereas the turnover of retail trade in non-food products dropped by 1.3 %. A drop in turnover was recorded in retail sale of electrical household appliances (of 6.3 %), in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 3.7 %), in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 2.8 %), in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 2.7 %) and in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 1.2 %). In turn, turnover growth was recorded in retail sale in non-specialised stores where mostly non-food products are sold (of 2.2 %), in retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (of 2.0 %), as well as in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 1.9 %).

Compared to August 2016, the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 5.8 % in September.
