The second meeting of the Statistical Council to take place on 17 June


On Friday, 17 June, the second meeting of the Statistical Council will take place at the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB). During the meeting discussions will be held regarding the development of the Official Statistics Programme of Latvia, as well as issues regarding data availability and confidentiality. Members of the Council will also discuss the most topical issues regarding the creation of the Official Statistics Portal.

The Official Statistics Programme for the years 2017–2019 shall prescribe the volume of official statistics to be provided within the state, as well as the indicators to be published, and it will also determine how regularly and to what level of detail they should be compiled and published by official statistical institutions, including the CSB. In 2016, official statistics in Latvia are being compiled by 55 state administration institutions.

The Statistical Council was established on 25 January 2016. Its aim is to promote the development of the Official Statistics System of Latvia and provide statistical institutions with recommendations on planning and elaborating official statistics, data acquisition, processing, analysis and dissemination. The Council is composed of Aija Žīgure, President of the CSB, as well as experts of the Ministry of Economics, Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Council of Higher Education, Data State Inspectorate, Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre, the Bank of Latvia, Employers’ Confederation of Latvia, Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Latvian Statisticians Association.
