On retail trade turnover in February 2008

Compared to January, retail trade turnover in February, after the turnover decrease in previous months, has grown by 2.4%1, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau. Retail trade of food has increased by 0.3%, but of non-food products – by 2.6%. The most rapid increase was recorded in retail trade of household goods, furniture, electrical appliances and construction materials – by 5.1%, but decrease was observed in retail trade enterprises selling mainly pharmaceutical goods and cosmetics – by 0.8%, and in retail trade enterprises selling clothing, footwear and textiles - by 1.2%.

Compared to January 2007, retail trade turnover has grown by 1%2, moreover for enterprises mainly selling food products it has decreased by 3%, but for non-food sellers – it has increased by 2.7%.

Compared to corresponding period of previous year, in January – February retail trade turnover has increased by 0.2%2, besides in food-selling enterprises it has decreased by 2.8%, but in enterprises selling mainly non-food products – increased by 1.8%.

Compared to January, in February 2008 retail trade turnover of enterprises the main activity of which is the sale of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts thereof increased by 1.3%1, but, compared to February of the previous year there was a decrease of 2.7%2. Generally, this sector experiences the growth slow down - already for three months in a row the turnover is lower than in corresponding month a year ago. Compared to the corresponding period of 2007, in January - February 2008 the retail trade turnover has decreased by 2.4%2, but to compare the three months (from December 2007 until February of this year) with a relevant period a year ago, the turnover decrease constitutes 6.8%2.
