On retail trade turnover in December 2008

Total retail trade turnover in 2008 constituted LVL 4018 mln, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau, of which in December – LVL 369 mln. Compared to 2007 it has decreased by 8.2%, if calculating at constant prices. More significant decrease was recorded in retail trade of non-food products – 8.4%, slightly less reduced in retail trade of food products – by 7.8%.

Compared to November total retail trade turnover in December 2008 has decreased by 4%, according to seasonally adjusted data (calculating at constant prices). In non-food commodity group it has diminished by 4.9%, but food products were sold 2.5% less.

Compared to December 2007 in December 2008, according to working (trade) day adjusted data, calculating at constant prices, retail trade turnover has reduced by 16.9%. Most notable decrease was recorded in non-food product group – by 19.6%. Slightly less it has reduced in companies selling mainly food products – by 11.6%. Turnover has grown only in retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods – by 11.6%, as well as in retail trade via mail order houses – by 0.3%.
