On retail trade turnover in April 2008

In comparison with March, total retail trade turnover in April 2008 has increased by 2.3%1,, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau. The growth was recorded in almost all commodity groups.

Retail trade of food products has grown by 0.2%, but non-food products were sold 2.9% more than in the previous month. In April within this group turnover increase (by 12.3%) was observed in non-specialised stores selling mainly food. The turnover increase of retail trade in second-hand goods constituted 19.3%. Also other retail trade in specialised stores has grown by 5% (trade in sports goods, plants, seeds, fertilisers, pet food, cleaning materials, clocks, jewellery, photo equipment, etc.)

Compared to April of previous year, in April of this year retail trade turnover has grown by 1.2%2, and that mainly was furthered by the increase of the retail trade in non-food products (by 5.5%). But the retail trade in food products during the same period reduced by 5.8%.

Compared to corresponding period of 2007, in January – April 2008 total retail trade turnover has decreased by 0.5%. Retail trade in food products has reduced by 4.2%, but retail trade turnover of non-food products has slightly grown (by 1.6%).

Compared to March, in April 2008 retail trade turnover of enterprises the main activity of which is the sale of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts thereof increased by 10.2%1, but, compared to April of the previous year there was an increase of 4.2%2. Compared to the same period before, in January – April 2008 the turnover of this economic activity has reduced by 5.3%, of which the volume of sale of motor vehicles has decreased by 10.8%, but sale of motor vehicle parts, as well as, sale of motorcycles and parts thereof has grown by 10.1%.

Compared to March 2008, the turnover of automotive fuel retail tradeinenterprises has increased by 5.5%1, but compared to April 2007, this economic activity witnessed turnover decrease – of 3.3%2.
