Results of the survey of Latvian residents about the domestic trips made in the 2nd quarter of 2011
The survey on the domestic trips of Latvia population conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau shows that, in comparison with the 1st half of 2010, the number of recreational trips in the 1st half of 2011 has grown by 9.7%.The number of recreational trips comprised 6.5 million, of which 1.5 million were recreational trips with overnight stay – an increase of 1.7% if compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The most popular destination for recreational trips with overnight stay was Riga region – 39%.20% of all recreational trips with overnight stay were made to Latgale, 16% - to Vidzeme, 15% - to Kurzeme and 10% - to Zemgale.
The majority (89%) of residents travelling for recreational purposes and staying overnight were accommodated in private lodgings (at relatives and friends, in summer cottages, in rented houses and flats, etc.).The average length of trips with overnight stay comprised 2 visitor nights, and during the trip travellers on average spent LVL 19.6 – a decrease of LVL 0.8, if compared to the 1st half of 2010.Recreational trips with overnight stay were mostly preferred by women (57.2%).The majority of travellers (49.2%) were at age of 25-44.
In its turn, the number of business trips with overnight stay comprised 126.3 thousand - 37% more than in the 1st half of 2010.During a business trip one traveller on average spent LVL 44.7.Cars were the transport vehicles used for the recreational and business trips most often.

Main reasons behind not travelling were financial conditions (53%), lack of time (16%), and lack of interest (7%).Other reasons were mentioned by 24% of respondents.
