Producer price indices in September 2006

Compared to August, producer prices in Latvian industry in September 2006 increased by 1.1%, but compared to September 2005, producer prices have increased by 11.8%. In the 3rd quarter this year prices increased on average by 2.7% compared to the 2nd quarter but compared to the corresponding period last year, prices have increased by 11.4%.

Compared to August, the overall producer price level in September was mostly raised (by 0.5 percentage points) by the price increase in the manufacture of wood and of articles of wood, except furniture. The increase in the tariffs of electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply raised the overall price level by 0.2 percentage points.

Over the year the increase in the prices of wood and of articles of wood (except furniture) as well as the increase in the tariffs of electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply has made the greatest impact on the overall level of producer prices raising it by 2.2 percentage points. The overall price level was raised due to the following price increases: 1.4 percentage points in the manufacture of food products and beverages and 0.7 percentage points in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products.
