Producer price indices in November 2006

Compared to October, producer prices in Latvian industry in November 2006 increased by 1.6%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau. Over the year (compared to November 2005) producer prices have increased by 13.0%. Compared to October, prices in November 2005 rose by 1.0% but compared to November 2004 the increase was 6.7%.

Compared to October, the overall level of producer prices in November was mostly raised (by 0.7 percentage points) due to price increases in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood (except furniture); mainly in sawing, planing and impregnation. The overall price level was raised by 0.3 percentage points due to price increases in the manufacture of food products and beverages (mainly in the processing and preservation of fish and fish products and in the manufacture of bread, freshly baked products and cakes from dough) as well as due to the rises in the tariffs of electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply (mainly in the supply of steam and hot water). In the same period a fall in the prices in publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media and in the manufacture of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) as well as in the manufacture of furniture and manufacturing n.e.c. had a lowering effect (by 0.1 percentage point).

Over the year the rises in the prices in the manufacture of wood and of articles of wood except furniture have made the greatest impact on the overall level of producer prices raising it by 3.6 percentage points. The overall price level was raised due to the following price increases: 2.1 percentage points in electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply, 1.3 percentage points in the manufacture of food products and beverages, 0.6 percentage points in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products and 0.4 percentage points in the manufacture of other transport vehicles. machinery and equipment).
