On producer price changes in industry in September 2009

Compared to August, producer prices in Latvian industry in September 2009 grew by 0.3% which is the first increase this year in comparison with previous month, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. In its turn, over the year (compared to September 2008) producer prices have decreased by 8.0%.

Compared to August overall level of producer prices in September 2009 was mostly influenced by price rise in the manufacture of basic metals (by 0.4 percentage points), in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery, in the manufacture of furniture, in the manufacture of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) and in the manufacture of wearing apparel (by 0.1 percentage point in each activity). At the same time the price decrease in the manufacture of wood and products of wood (except furniture) 1) had the largest downward impact (0.2 percentage points) on the level of producer prices. The reduction of the tariffs of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply2), as well as price drop in printing and reproduction of recorded media, in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. and in the manufacture of food products lowered it by 0.1 percentage point (in each activity).

Over the year, the price drop in the manufacture of basic metals had the biggest lowering impact on the overall level of producer prices (3.9 percentage points). The decrease of prices in the manufacture of wood and products of wood (except furniture) lowered the producer price level by 1.9 percentage points, in the manufacture of food products - by 1.6 percentage points, in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products - by 0.6 percentage points. However, the increase of the tariffs of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply left the biggest upward impact on the overall level of producer prices (by 1.0 percentage point).
