On producer price changes in industry in May 2010

Compared to April, producer prices in Latvian industry in May 2010 increased by 1.8%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Rise of overall price level was characteristic both for goods sold on the domestic market and for exported products (respectively, by 0.9% and 3.1%). Major price increases were in the manufacture of basic metals (by 11.6%), in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood, except furniture (by 3.4%), in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (by 1.3%), in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (by 6.8%), in the manufacture of food products (by 0.4%).

Over a year (compared to May 2009) producer prices in industry increased by 3.3%. Reduction of prices of products sold on the domestic market was 0.6%. In its turn, prices of exported products increased by 9.4%. The changes of the prices in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood, except furniture (growth of 14.2%), in the manufacture of basic metals (increase of 25.1%), in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (rise of 71.6%), in the manufacture of food products (fall of 0.8%) and in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (drop of 2.2%) had the biggest impact on the overall level of producer prices.
